Miami, Flo – Masahiro Tanaka, strikeout 8, in 6 innings pitched and allowed only 3 hits, in his first victory of this 2018 by a final score of 4-2
The question of some people was whether the Yankees starting rotation, could be as good as his powerful offense, but in these first two games, the Bombers’ starters have allowed only 1 run, in 11 ½ innings, with 15 K’s and allow only 4 hits.
The first run of the game came in the top of the second. Didi started the episode with a triple, but then he made a terrible base running play on a groundball to third base hit by Gary Sanchez. Gregorius tried to score and was called out via 5-2.
However in that inning, after one out, would be the big league debut for the young Billy McKinney, which was called today from the minors due to an injury suffered by center fielder Aaron Hicks that will keep him on the disabled list for 10 days. McKinney, managed to control his emotions and connected a single in his first MLB at bat to put Sanchez in third and it was the turn for Brandon Drury, who hit a wild line drive against the right field fence which did not go out for a homerun for less than a foot.
The Blue Jays fought back in the same inning, thanks to the homerun by Randall Grichuck against Tanaka, which after that homer would regroup and not allow more freedoms.
The Bombers would take command at the top of the fourth by Gregorius double and 4 batters later, Drury brought him home with his second hit and RBI of the game to put the actions 2-1.
The Bronx Bombers will score two more to extend their lead in the top of sixth. This time by a 2-run double with the bases loaded by the promising rookie Tyler Wade.
Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson in relief did their job. But in the ninth inning, Aroldis Chapman, after striking out the first two batters, allowed two consecutive doubles to Steven Pearce and Yangervis Solarte scoring a run but finally managed to strikeout Randall Grichuck and got the saved ( its first) and so the Bombers put their record at 2-0 in this young 2018 season.
Tomorrow the series between Yankees and Blue Jays will continue when at 4 PM in the afternoon the super veteran of a thousand battles C.C Sabathia takes on the Mexican Marco Estrada.
