Luis Severino pitched a gem and Giancarlo showed his power

By Alfredo Alvarez

Miami-Luis Severino could not be on a better roll. In 9 innings, he only allowed 5 hits, a walk, and struck out 10 Astros. His team won by a final score of 4 to 0.

The Bombers jumped off the scoreboard early, when in the same first inning, with Didi Gregorius on base, Giancarlo Stanton hit a line drive against left-hander Dallas Keuchel that went over the right field fence for a 2-run homerun.

He repeated the feat in the fourth inning, this time with the bases empty, also against Keuchel. Yankees 3 Houston 0.

Just like that, Giancarlo Stanton became the first Yankee ever to homer off Dallas Keuchel, taking the lefty deep twice.

At the top of the eighth, Stanton was still wearing his superhero cape and he drove home the Yankees’ 4th run with a double to right field, scoring Aaron Hicks.

The Astros’ only real scoring opportunity was in the seventh, when the first two hitters hit singles, but then rookie Gleyber Torres made an amazing play to save the inning, leaping and diving toward left field to take a base hit away from Alex Bregman. Then Severino levelled up and struck out Marwin Gonzalez, followed by an excellent play from first baseman Tyler Austin, on a grounder by pinch hitter Brian McCann.

The series continues this afternoon when at 2:00 PM Masahiro Tanaka steps up to the mound for the Bombers and Lance McCullers Jr. for the Astros.
